Vlog #4: What I Have Learned

In the course, I learned a lot about how a second language learner learns and grows in a classroom. One of the most important things I have learned is that it is extremely important for teachers to understand a student's culture and their home life. (Wright, 2015, p.213) This is a perfect example of how teachers must teach the whole child by making sure his emotional, mental and physical safeties are met so students can learn at maximum capacity. Students can more comfortably and easily learn as a second language if they know their teacher cares enough about them and their education to be aware and knowledgeable in non-academic areas of their life. This course has changed the way that I will run my classroom, solely based on the fact that I will be armed with so many new, exciting and research-backed ideas to better help my students learn.
